Monday night, DJ Ayokay brought his We Come Alive Fall 2019 Tour to The Foundry in Philadelphia. The Michigan-born producer, also known as Alex O’Neill, hit the road in October for a month-long tour alongside alternative/electronic artist Wingtip. Fans queued up long before the doors were to open, anticipating a fun, dance-filled night.

As the clock hit eight, Wingtip took the stage to kick off the show. With just his guitar and soundboard, Wingtip captivated the audience and killed with his performance. Throughout the set, he would interact with the audience, which made each song feel more personal and relatable.

He played some of his older songs, as well as some newer records including October 2019 release “Heartworks.” As Wingtip began playing the first few chords to “Happiness” the crowd instantly began singing along. His electric performance got the audience more amped up to see Ayokay.

About an hour later, the lights went back down, and it was time for Ayokay. To everyone’s surprise, one of the creatures featured on the cover of his most recent release “We Come Alive. (Side A)” stepped on stage rather than Alex. This was a special moment for true Ayokay fans that recognized his fuzzy “buddy.” The creature then exited the stage and Alex stepped into the vibrantly colored lights instead.

Ayokay then began his set with his newest single “Things Fall Apart” from his EP “We Come Alive. (Side A).” Similar to opener Wingtip, Alex’s interactions with the crowd made his performance one to remember. He then played a mix of older and newer songs, with his fans knowing every lyric.

Later in the set, Alex began talking about artists who he is friends with including Chelsea Cutler and Quinn XCII, with both of whom he has collaborated. When Alex started playing “The Shine” featuring Chelsea Cutler, the crowd went wild, as well as when he began “Queen” and later finishing off his performance with “Kings of Summer,” both collaborations with his hometown friend Quinn XCII.

I would highly recommend to anyone, regardless of age to go out and see Ayokay and/or Wingtip next time they tour. The mix of the chill atmosphere at the Foundry, the passionate fans, and great music made for an amazing night, as well as a fun time.
