Dogstar - Our Little Visionary (Zoo)

Okay, even though as bassist he's really the least important cog in this machine, let's face it, all of us are thinking of Dogstar as movie star Keanu Reeves' band.

Dogstar ends up being a pretty good band, not revolutionary – in fact, they're a little derivative – but not embarrassing, either (remember Johnny Depp's band P?)

Original tunes like the grunge anthem "Forgive" and the more musically adventurous "Breathe Tonight" rock out with style. A nice cover of Badfinger's "No Matter What" shows taste – the song is good enough it can't be done badly – but it doesn't keep up with the original or even Jellyfish' cover a few years ago.

As for Reeves' bass playing, it's fine, not overly intrusive and he never seems to mess up.

Would Dogstar have gotten a record contract without Reeves on bass? Maybe not, but they probably do deserve it.
