Game of Thrones Releases the Dragons on Philadelphia

Dragons took flight over the skies of Center City Philadelphia on Wednesday. People showed up by the thousands, filling Dilworth Park and the streets surrounding City Hall to catch a glimpse at this spectacle. All of this to mark the release of Game of Thrones: The Complete Fifth Season on DVD.

Dilworth Park was marked with a sinister looking crash site. Debris scattered and smoke billowing through the giant metal gates of City Hall, but this wasn’t a typical accident. The prints of a pair of what appear to be giant reptilian feet lie at the edge of the wreck. People flocked to this scene, snapping cell phone shots and videos which flooded social media with anticipation for the beast to make its return appearance.

As the crowd began to grow impatient, it appeared. A production team in a cargo van equipped with a rather larger projector. The excitement paired with the anticipation may have led some to a feeling of disappointment. However it was exciting for what it was. The dragon was massive, with a wing span reaching over 100 feet wide at points as it blew fire on the familiar backdrop of Philadelphia. The beast flew around 13th and Market Streets before making its move to City Hall, and continued its journey north to the Temple University campus.

Pop-up projector billboards or shows is a form of marketing that we see rather often now. As the technology and technique continue to grow, so should the reactions of the audience. If there’s one thing to be said of Game of Thrones fans, it would be that they are passionate. The fans are die-hard dedicated, but we’re all excited to binge on the fifth season of Game of Thrones.
