With the growing popularity of Vine, a “family” of popular Viners got together as a group to developed an event called Magcon, which has become a huge success. Whitesides was asked to perform on the tour. Now, Whitesides is singing on multiple tours, such as OMG Music Fest, Run Around Tour and Magcon as well.
Just this past week, in Howell, New Jersey, we sat down to talk with Whitesides. His sense of humor is quick, and he was very easy to have a conversation with. This is what he had to say about tours, his recently released music, and how much he appreciates his fans.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a very awkward, shy person. I don’t really go out in public a lot. I like to sit in my bed and sleep, and play music. Oh, and I like cats a lot. (laughs)
What is your favorite part about coming to shows and performing?
When you’re singing in the studio it’s cool, but when you’re face to face, it’s a whole other level of intimacy. It’s so awesome. I just love the face to face experience with the fans.
What has been one of the best places you’ve traveled?
San Diego is always going to be my favorite. I love San Diego.
You recently released your EP 3 A.M. Tell us about it.
I was not even planning on doing this, but I posted some Soundcloud covers, which are just free live covers I just shot with my mic in my room. You guys really seemed to like it, so I got in the studio and we got it all professional. We went in and recorded it in two days. Then we put it on iTunes. Everyone is loving it so far, and it went number two overall on iTunes, which is so awesome. I was so overwhelmed. I was doing jumping jacks and jump splits all around the house.
How did you choose the songs for 3 A.M.?
Whatever got the best reaction off my Soundcloud. I just took the top five most popular songs from there that everyone seemed to listen to the most.
Which song was your favorite to record?
“Your Body is a Wonderland” by John Mayer. I’m a John Mayer fangirl.

If you weren’t doing what you’re doing today what do you think you’d be doing?
I really love photography. I love taking pictures of people like my sister and Dylan. I just love pictures. I have a really nice camera too. I just like to take pictures!
If you could collaborate with anyone dead or alive who would it be?
It’s a tie between Ed Sheeran and John Mayer. Those are my two favorites.
You’re very popular on social media. How does that affect your life?
It’s made it crazy. It’s overwhelming like when you go to your own mall, like your hometown mall, and people come up and take pictures with you. Like wow. It’s an eye opener. It’s pretty crazy.
Do your friends and family support your career?
No, they all hate me actually. (laughs) I’m here by myself. No, They’re really supportive. My mom has always been supportive. Even back in my days when I was a flop, she supported me and always helped me out. I’m appreciative for that.

Do you have any new surprises or material coming out?
I have a new single coming out really soon. I don’t know the date yet, but it’s finished. It’s recorded. Everything is done for it, we just have to get it up on iTunes.
Where do you see yourself in the next ten years?
Hopefully on tour, which I am on right now. I just love meeting you guys. It’s incredible. So, hopefully I’ll be on a worldwide tour.
Now we’ve got some questions some of your fans sent us on Twitter. If you wanted to get a girls attention what would you do?
I’d probably be like: I’m famous on the internet! Date me!
What’s your favorite part about Vine?
My favorite part about Vine is that I can just go in, and learn two words to the song instead of having to go learn the whole song. They seem to like it just as much. That’s my favorite part about Vine. I can be lazy!
Taco Bell or Applebee’s?
Applebee’s, because they are loyal to me. They follow me on Twitter. They DM me. They tweet me.
How do you start writing a song?
It usually just hits me. I’ll record it and I loop it over and over again until it is stuck in my head. Then, I just go from there.
If you could take back anything in life and redo it, what would it be?
Honestly, I get asked this question all the time. I can honestly say I have no regrets. I believe everything happens for a reason.
What would be your Starbucks order?
Caramel Frappe.
Lastly, Do you have a message for you supporters?
I love you guys so much. Thank you for making this happen for me. I’m forever thankful. You guys are amazing.
