Miguel, SiR & Nonchalant Savant – The Fillmore – Philadelphia, PA – March 20, 2018
Despite the rainy, icy weather of March, fans came from far and wide on Tuesday night for an incredible show at the Fillmore Philadelphia: the War & Leisure Tour.
Miguel’s two opening acts truly brought the crowd to a level of cool excitement for the headliner’s performance. What better way to kick off the show than with a performance by Miguel’s own brother, singer Nonchalant Savant?
Nonchalant Savant had no trouble quickly entrancing the crowd with his smooth R&B vocals, creating an intoxicatingly mellow vibe that loosened the audience up. Though Miguel’s musical influence was quite evident in his brother’s performance, especially intensified by the similarity of their voices, Nonchalant Savant made the performance his own with his unique style and relaxed personality.
Next up was Los Angeles singer and songwriter SiR, who showcased his incredible range and versatility by performing various tracks from his 2017 album November. SiR took the audience on a melodic journey with his L.A. style, creating a slow and silky atmosphere to begin with, and then transitioning to unmatched energy. This heightened the audience’s experience in preparation for Miguel to take the stage.
Finally, Miguel took the stage with a fire lit beneath him, immediately electrifying the crowd with his opening performance of “Criminal.” From the beginning, it was clear that Miguel would not disappoint. Not only did he perform various tracks from his most recent album War & Leisure, but he also reminisced with classic jams from his Wild Heart album as well.
He was even joined on stage again by Nonchalant Savant for an enthusiastic performance of “Deal,” accompanied by a fiery discussion of politics in America. In fact, many songs performed were preceded with a dialogue, discussing the meaning and importance of each song to Miguel. Doing so created an unmistakably strong and personal connection between the audience, the lyrics, and the singer himself.
Miguel used this technique in conjunction with his inimitable vocals to take the audience to new heights during his high-energy and sexually-charged performance. The fan favorite “Pineapple Skies” brought the show to a close, but we wanted more. So much so, that Miguel performed three additional songs for his encore. Overall, Miguel’s true talent radiated through the intimate venue, leaving fans awestruck (and maybe a little horny).
