Nessa Barrett made her long-awaited Aftercare World Tour Stop in Silver Spring this Friday. Nessa is only the third act this year to sell out the popular venue, following in the shoes of Thuy and Finneas. What made this sell out truly impressive was seeing almost 90% of the sold-out crowd showed up before the opening act, Ari Abdul, took the stage.
I have had the pleasure of shooting the multi-platinum artist, and even sold-out extravaganzas like I Heart Radios Jingle Ball, and I have never seen a crowd show up in droves that early for a show. This dedication shows how committed the fans really are to Nessa.
As the clock struck 8 pm, Ari Abdul and her guitarist entered the stage to thunderous applause from the room. One fan in particular roared so loud, Ari noticed the fans black, feather trimmed cowboy had embossed with red letters “Ari Abdul.” Ari stepped off the stage to greet the fan and proceeded to wear the hat for the majority of the show. Her fan fair did not stop there, coming into the photo pit multiple times to interact with fans and grab their phones for video moments. She played an 8-song set, and finishing with her wildly popular song “Baby Doll.”
Fans got a few moments to catch their breath and refill their drinks, but before long the lights were off, and the screams of the fans were most likely heard through the entire city of Silver Spring. Nessa’s band entered first wearing matching white shirts with black ties, followed by Nessa in a stunningly classy black evening dress.
After a short burst of backlit strobes, her voice could be heard as she started to sing “S.L.U.T.” The first three songs were a slow intimate affair as Nessa seemly stared into the eyes of each fan, drawing them deeper into the performance. After that she brought out her guitar and started to move about the stage, lifting the energy, and the volume!
Her set list had a mix of songs from all of her albums but focused heavily on her new album Aftercare. Even after a 20-song set, ending with fan favorite “P*rnstar,” Nessa came out for with a special treat for fans, a three-song encore.
