Our Last Night, Broadside & Normandie – The Fillmore – Silver Springs (A PopEntertainment.com Concert Review)

Our Last Night, Broadside & Normandie – The Fillmore – Silver Springs, MD – May 21, 2024

With a 99.9% Sold out Fillmore, Our Last Night brought their "Covers Only" Tour to Maryland. Coming with them were Swedish Alt Rock powerhouse Normandie, and local pop-punk heroes Broadside. Typically, openers are greeted by a crowd of 25-50% capacity, this Tuesday night was the exception to that rule. By the time Normandie was set to hit the stage, security informed me that 1400 out of the 1960 tickets sold had already been scanned in.

Needless to say, the energy was electric to kick off the show. Normandie took to the stage and wasted no time playing their Spotify hit "Serotonin." I'm not sure if this was the intention, but by kicking it off with such a banger, the crowd surfing started, and never stopped.

By the time Broadside jumped (literally) on the stage, the venue seemed to be at capacity, which was an absolute testament to the openers! Broadside frontman Ollie Baxxter kept the night fun by not only performing his heart out but also connecting with the crowd, thanking them, and even discussing how far they have come by mentioning the small local venues they used to play at.

When it was time for Our Last Night to finally take the stage, the crowd was READY. Fans behind the photo bit were jumping up and down in excitement, and there was even a huge fan made banner that flew directing other fans to "the pit." OLN opened with their cover Ed Sheeran hit "Shape of You," then immediately dove into fan favorite "Astronaut in the Ocean."

Here is where I have to pause and give a huge shout out to security at the Fillmore, they helped three to six crowd surfers per song to get to their feet safely, all while being mindful of the photographers in the photo pit. Up until the fifth song, the lighting had been fun, but tame. When "Hot Girl Bummer" came across the speakers, all bets were off. The stage crew hit the fog machines and let the laser show begin! Trevor, and the rest of the OLN crew kept the party rocking by bringing a fan on stage for some Swifty trivia, playing some Disney hits, and of course, letting the covers flow.
