P!NK, Sheryl Crow & The Script – Lincoln Financial Field – Philadelphia, PA – August 18, 2024
P!NK has taken high energy concerts to a whole new level. She did not disappoint when she brought her Summer Carnival Tour home to Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field. Being raised in the Philly suburbs, P!NK says it's always wonderful being home, and noted how jealous her brother is knowing she is playing the Linc, the home of the Eagles. Despite the threat of rain, fans showed up ready for an exciting night, some with rain ponchos in hand.
Openers for the show were Irish rock band The Script and singer/songwriter Sheryl Crow. The show started at 6:30 and went till 10:50. In between each set, concert goes enjoyed mini sets by DJ Kid Cut Up, who mixed a combination of genres including classic rock, pop and hip-hop.
The Script set included some of their early 2000s hits, along with new sounds like “Superheroes,” “Rain,” "The Man Who Can't Be Moved,” “For the First Time,” “Breakeven” and “Hall of Fame.” Lead singer and founding member Danny O'Donoghue is high energy and enjoyable to watch as he interacts with the crowd and built excitement for a night of musical excellence while running around the stage draped in an Irish flag.
When Sheryl Crow hit the stage, every fan was on their feet, enjoying her up-beat energy. Some concert goers around me commented how they had forgotten how many genres she falls into as she shared hits that fall under rock, pop, and country. Her set with hits that fans sang word for word. “Real Gone,” “A Change Would Do You Good,” “Run, Baby, Run,” “All I Wanna Do,” “My Favorite Mistake,” “Strong Enough,” “If It Makes You Happy,” “Evolution,” “The First Cut Is the Deepest” (a Cat Stevens cover), “Steve McQueen,” “There Goes the Neighborhood,” “Soak Up the Sun” and “Every Day Is a Winding Road.”
By the time the “Just Give Me a Reason” singer hit the stage, the diverse crowd was up on their feet and ready to be amazed. Many lucky fans have already experienced her shows before and knew what an amazing spectacle it is with music, lighting, pyrotechnics, and incredible acrobatics. One fan told me it was her sixth P!NK concert, and asked me jokingly if that made her a groupie?
Being lowered from above, P!NK started her high energy set off with an incredible aerial stunt while singing “Get the Party Started.” It’s fascinating to me how powerful her vocals are while being suspended upside down from wires.
The conversations and engagement P!NK has with her audience between songs shows why she is so loved by millions. She shared stories, jokes, and empowering messages in between a mixture of pop, rock, some covers, and other music genres throughout the night. “Raise Your Glass,” “Just Give Me a Reason” and “F**ckin’ Perfect” were some of the hits she performed in more than 20 songs set that night. One exceptional moment was when she was joined on stage by the Jolly Music Choir of Philadelphia to do a gorgeous performance of “I Am Here.” It brought P!NK and many in the audience to tears. Another fan favorite moment is when Willow Sage Hart, her 13-year-old daughter, takes the stage to sign “Cover Me in Sunshine” with her Mom. It’s such a beautiful moment.
Her energy is contagious, and she displayed incredible showmanship throughout the night. There were bright colors everywhere – the set, costumes, lighting, etc. It was definitely a feel-good show. The only disappointment from the evening was well beyond her control. With thunderstorms in the area, she announced her big finale (while flying across the stadium) had to be grounded due to possible lightning within seven miles and her being up there one metal wires. But, even on the ground singing “So What,” one of her iconic songs was still an amazing way to finish off the night.
