Radiohead & Junun – Wells Fargo Center – Philadelphia, PA – July 31, 2018

Opening with barely any light illuminating Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood and the rest of the world dominating rock force known as Radiohead, “Daydreaming” unspooled before a ravenous crowd. From 2017’s masterful A Moon Shaped Pool, Philadelphia started a journey of awe-inspiring live music. On the first of a two-night stand at Wells Fargo Center to conclude their world tour, Radiohead delivered an aural and visual experience unlike any other living band.

Traversing their career with ease, like going from Amnesiac‘s “Pyramid Song” into the sublime “No Surprises” from OK Computer, Yorke and company were at the height of their musical powers. The crowd swayed and danced in place to songs about self-destruction and love and the loss of love. Philly watched in awe as Jonny Greenwood switched from piano to guitar to drums.

A band that at its best exists in an ethereal context, floating between the present and future with ease (and on July 31 they easily achieved this), Radiohead is in a genre all their own, taking thousands of people at once to musical ecstasy.

Junun opened with Jonny Greenwood scratching away at guitar and bass while Shye Ben Tzur led the melodic charge that Rajasthan Express took to another level with their horns, percussion sounds and voices.
