Touring Rosewood with the Pretty Little Liars

There’s a town in Pennsylvania – well, sort of – that once entered, haunts one for life. This is the case for the five females on the hit Freeform show Pretty Little Liars. On TV, the city of Rosewood is completely eerie and dangerous. The actual set in real life is far from that, situated on a backlot in Burbank, California at Warner Brothers Studios.

Now, the studios are allowing fans a special interactive tour of the show and the town. To celebrate the opening of the “Pretty Little Liars: Made Here” tour, cast members Shay Mitchell and Sasha Pieterse and show creator Marlene King recently took some press outlets on a tour of the new attraction, and we were there.

Rosewood High School begins the tour. We followed a guide that led us to City Hall, built just on the right. The tour guide explained that every building has a different inside than those seen in television and film, including all sets of Pretty Little Liars.

In the dead center of this “town” is the park and its infamous green gazebo, which was also used for Gilmore Girls. Past the lawns and across the street is The Brew restaurant where Cece Drake (played by Vanessa Ray, who turned out to be the infamous “A”) was met, now being used as a grocery store.

Through the small street leading past, Ezra’s quaint cafe is resting, and although the props were only up for press day. The tiny building itself is distinguishable through its unique blue-gray paint. Walking back to the opposite side of the park is each home exterior, except for Alison’s, found later while touring the jungle. If planning to visit, make sure to dress and prepare well for the warm weather as the tour and exhibit are open June 15 through August 15.

Before or after each tour on the Warner Brothers Lot, one can visit the less accurate but working version of Central Perk Cafe from the television series Friends, as well as the actual cafe set for a quick photo op on the couch. To the left of the working cafe is a walk-through exhibit of photographs from each show and movie filmed on the lot, as well as subject displays like casting and screenwriting. Walking through was fascinating, and to see props forces you to realize how much goes into feature films and shows, especially in the prop house.

Inside the huge exhibit is a specific room displaying Pretty Little Liars costumes and props. Experiencing this first hand as a huge fan of the show was absolutely incredible. From Ezra and Aria’s book to the iconic red coat and even A’s dollhouse, every episode literally comes alive with each tiny detail even as the props are out of place.

A Q&A with Shay Mitchell who plays Emily Fields, Sasha Pieterse who plays Alison DiLaurentis, and Marlene King showed the girls’ heartache over the final episode and its future premiere. If you’re a follower of the liars, then you definitely need to check out this exhibit. Make sure to catch the final two episodes of Pretty Little Liars on Freeform! And remember – don’t trust a pretty girl with an ugly secret.
